In the world of music, unexpected collaborations and surprising cameos have always been a thrilling surprise for fans. However, back in the late ’80s, one particular crossover took fans by surprise when the iconic rock band Van Halen made a cameo appearance in a music video alongside country legend Hank Williams Jr.
When Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen as the lead singer in 1985, the band often partied hard and put on some seriously high-energy shows. During their wild escapades, they’d jokingly call it “Bocephus mode” as a nod to Hank Williams Jr.’s infamous antics, according to the Van Halen News Desk. Hank Williams Jr. was given the nickname “Bocephus” from his late father, Hank Williams Sr., and it’s been a cherished part of his country music journey ever since.
When Williams learned about the reference, he invited the band to make a cameo in his music video.

The Van Halen and Hank Williams Jr. freindship still brings a smile to many fans today. In 2021, a YouTuber named Bill McClintock took the music from Hank Williams’ “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and added the vocals from Van Halen’s “Jump” on top of it. It’s like the collaboration we all secretly wished happened.
