Jake Owen’s New Single “On The Boat Again” Puts a Spin On a Willie Nelson Classic

Barely 48 hours after revealing his upcoming studio album, “Loose Cannon,” Jake Owen surprised fans by releasing four tracks from the highly anticipated project on Friday, May 26. And one song in particular caught the attention of fans.

On the Boat Again” takes the memorable chorus melody from Willie Nelson’s iconic 1980 anthem “On the Road Again” and cleverly reimagines the lyrics, expressing the beloved tradition of Southern weekend getaways on a boat.

“On The Road Again” showcased Nelson’s relentless desire for his upcoming tour, eagerly anticipating new destinations and fresh audiences, all from the perspective of a highway with his bandmates. However, Owen’s spin on the classic shows his longing for a well-deserved break from work. In “On the Boat Again,” Owen can’t get away from work fast enough, heading to the lake with fishing equipment and his friends.

Owen sings, “On the boat again, I just can’t wait to get on the boat again / The life I love is drinking cold beer with my friends.” / Cast a line and see if I can’t reel one in/ Yeah, I can’t wait to get on the boat again”

Set to release on June 23 under Big Loud Records, Loose Cannon consists of 16 tracks, including the recently released singles “Hot Truck Beer,” “Solo Solo,” and “Nothing,” all of which dropped last Friday alongside “On the Boat Again.” This album serves as the follow-up to Owen’s 2019 release, Greetings From…Jake.
