Top 12 finalist, Colin Stough, was praised by American Idol judge Katy Perry as the “Brad Pitt of country music” after his mesmerizing acoustic performance of Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own‘.
The 18-year-old is originally from a small town near Amory, Mississippi and works as an HVAC technician. His mom signed him up for American Idol, knowing very well that he would never take the chance himself. During his audition, he blew the judges away with his rendition of ‘Simple Man’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Despite the star quality that all Idol judges see in him, Colin has struggled with confidence on stage due to his limited performing experience. However, his performance of ‘Dancing On My Own’ was a defining moment in his journey.
In a recent interview with People, Katy Perry shared that Colin’s performance made her a “believer.”
While she didn’t find his all of his past performances particularly impressive, she was blown away by his rendition of Robyn’s song, which she considered one of the best of the night. Katy revealed that this performance was a turning point for Colin and had a profound impact on his future.
Katy shared that she really believes that Colin has everything it takes to become a big star in the country music scene, from his taste in music and song selection to his exceptional vocal abilities.
“He’s the Brad Pitt of country music, Katy Perry claimed. “He’s got the taste and the song choice and the vocal ability — he really showcased it tonight.”
As Colin competes in the Top 12, it will be interesting to see how he will continue his newfound path of stage presence, especially with his new title as country music’s Brad Pitt!
