Bob Barker, Longtime ‘Price Is Right’ Host, Dies at 99

Bob Barker, the iconic TV game-show host who graced the screen for over five decades, infamously known as the beloved host of The Price Is Right, has passed away.

This sad news was confirmed by his spokesperson. He was 99 years old.

Beginning his journey as a game show host in 1956, Barker’s entrance into the field was becoming the host for Truth or Consequences, where he hosted for 18 years. Becoming the host of The Price Is Right in 1972, Barker notably leveraged his television presence to champion the cause of animal rights and welfare.

He concluded episodes of The Price Is Right with the now-iconic line that would eventually become his signature phrase: “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.”

In his lifetime, Barker impressively secured 19 Daytime Emmys, 5 of which were for Outstanding Game Show Host, along with a prestigious Daytime Emmy Award for lifetime achievement in 1999. In 2004, he was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.

Barker ended his time as the host of “The Price Is Right” in June 2007. Over his impressive 35-year run, he was absent from only one taping, comprising of four episodes.

Barker is survived by his half-brother Kent Valendra, along with half-nephews Robert and Chip Valendra, and half-niece Vickie Valendra Kelly. His legacy also extends to millions of devoted fans spanning the nation.
