Moana Live-Action

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson To Star In Live Action Moana

Get excited Disney fans, because your favorite island princess is coming to life on the big screen in an all-new live-action adaptation! That’s right, Moana is getting a whole new look.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shared that “Moana” is currently in development for a live-action adaptation, that offers a reimagined take on the original story.

“Humbled to say we’re bringing #MOANA’s beautiful story to the live action big screen! #MAUI changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honored to partner with @DisneyStudios to tell our story thru the realm of music & dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people,” Johnson tweeted as the announcement dropped.

Johnson will team up with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn from Flynn Picture Co, to produce the live-action adaptation. The executive producers will be Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, and Scott Sheldon from Flynn Picture Co. Jared Bush, the original film’s screenwriter, along with Dana Ledoux Miller, a Samoan industry professional, will also be involved in the production in some capacity, but the details are not yet known.

Moana follows the journey of a young girl who is selected by the ocean to return a sacred artifact to the goddess Te Fiti. As she embarks on her mission, she encounters Maui, a banished demigod, who becomes her mentor and ally.

In addition to other live-action adaptations such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Mulan, and the upcoming The Little Mermaid, the live-action version of Moana is also part of Disney’s expanding collection of remakes.

We can hardly wait to see Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson bring his larger-than-life charisma to the role of his beloved character, Maui, and what’s in store for this anticipated live-action remake!
