Gucci Mane Wants to Venture Into Country Music— and This Is the First Artist He Wants to Sign

Gucci Mane is talking about getting into country music now, and he’s got someone specific in mind that he wants to sign first.

On Instagram, rapper and record executive Gucci Mane revealed yesterday (August 16) that he’s considering extending a record deal invitation from his label, 1017 Records, to rising-country-singer Oliver Anthony.

“Aye fam I need y’all help on this one I’m trying sign these guys as my first country artists to 1017!!! I need the info asap,” he said to his followers.

Oliver Anthony has received a lot of attention lately because of his new single “Rich Men North of Richmond,” which has gone viral online due to its controversial lyrics.

Anthony, who is said to be a Virginia farmer living off the grid, has seemingly become an over-night internet sensation with his new song. In just a little over a week on YouTube, his live performance video has pulled in an impressive 15 million views. Not only is Anthony making waves on Spotify’s viral chart with multiple tracks, but “Rich Men North of Richmond” has also struck a chord, particularly within right-wing communities, almost becoming an anthem of sorts.

In the starting lines of “Rich Men North of Richmond,” Oliver Anthony lays out the challenges of a regular working man’s life. From there, he delves into social-political issues, such as a few lyrics that have sparked controversy addressing the topic of welfare in the United States.

In a YouTube video, Oliver Anthony addressed his political stance, saying that his beliefs are “pretty dead center down the aisle on politics and always have,” and that he believes “both sides serve the same master.”
