The Grand Ole Opry audience got a special surprise on Wednesday, October 25! Not only did the packed house have the honor of celebrating Craig Morgan‘s 15th Opry Anniversary, they were also treated to a guest appearance by Jelly Roll. The two joined forces for a powerful duet of Craig’s “Almost Home.”
The moment was particularly touching as Jelly Roll has openly discussed the impact the song has had on him. During a pivotal time in Jelly Roll’s life, he visited the Grand Ole Opry where he heard Craig Morgan sing “Almost Home.”
In fact, in June of 2022, Jelly Roll and Craig Morgan performed an emotional rendition of the song together on the Opry stage for the first time. It was then that Jelly Roll shared to the crowd, “Shortly after I got out of jail, I sat right there in row 7 and I cried like a baby and watched him sing. I remember thinking ‘I want to make people feel the way he makes me feel right now.”
Knowing what that night and song meant to Jelly Roll, Craig Morgan presented Jelly Roll with a handwritten copy of the lyrics. Watch the full video below.
Flash forward to 2023, the two have also recorded a studio version of “Almost Home” that can be found on Craig Morgan’s most recent EP, Enlisted, which features new takes on four of Morgan’s biggest hits along with two new tracks and includes appearances by Trace Adkins, Luke Combs, Gary LeVox, Jelly Roll, Blake Shelton, and Lainey Wilson.
